  • Fifty Shades...

Yesterday I finished reading Fifty Shades of Grey & then earlier this afternoon I finished reading Fifty Shades Darker, the second book in the Fifty Shades trilogy.  I imagine I'll pick up and read Fifty Shades Freed later this week.  I'm just whipping through this series.

Frankly the content doesn't matter to me.  The biggest reason that I'm enjoying this series is the discussions.  Sure talking about sex is fun, but that's not even what I mean.  This is probably the first time in the history of my life as a reader that I've been able to fully discuss a series I'm reading.  Sure I'll mention tidbits of books to friends and if I'm lucky enough maybe someone I'm talking to will have read the book but it's so rare that I get lucky in this arena.

This is the first time that most (pretty much all) of my female (and some male) friends have read, want to read, or are currently reading a book that I have.  The discussions I've had about it have ranged from laughing over sex scenes to bashing James' fondness for 'blushing, biting lips, and muttering.'  We've talked about how realistic v unrealistic this book is and have debated whether this should even be a best seller.  Whether it has been an 'EL James is the best writer ever!' conversation or an 'EL James and her books irritate the piss out of me,' type one doesn't even matter.  Like I said, the content is moot to me.  I'm just loving the fact that when I show up to hang out with friends it's someone else who is bringing up the topic of a book and asking me what I think of it.

I know it won't be forever, but I'm going to relish this while it lasts.

    Love,
    Krissy
